UFCjunkie.com Announces Sponsorship of Sean Salmon for May 26's UFC 71 Event

(PRWEB) May 23, 2007 -- UFCjunkie.com, the leading online source for UFC-related news, is proud to announce its sponsorship of UFC light heavyweight Sean Salmon (9-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC), who will face Alan Belcher (9-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) at UFC 71. The event takes place Saturday, May 26 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Salmon is also a columnist for UFCjunkie.com and authors "Full-Time Fighter," a weekly column about being a professional mixed-martial-arts fighter. He'll also pen a special "UFC 71 Diary" column each day leading up to Saturday's fight.

UFC 71, an official Ultimate Fighting Championships event, is expected to draw an attendance of nearly 20,000. Millions more will watch the pay-per-view broadcast across the globe. The Belcher vs. Salmon bout is a preliminary fight but could appear on the night's broadcast on tape delay.

This is Salmon's second sponsorship with UFCjunkie.com. UFCjunkie.com first sponsored the 205-pound fighter for his much-anticipated UFC debut earlier this year in the main event of UFC Fight Night 8 in Hollywood, Fla. In the nationally televised event, he was pitted against the heavily favored Rashad Evans, the heavyweight winner of The Ultimate Fighter 2. Although Salmon won the first round, he suffered a KO in the second. He's now ready to stake claim to his first victory in the UFC, which is the premier MMA organization in the United State and around the world.

Salmon, who lives in Columbus, Ohio, is an official member of the Team Jorge Gurgel fight team and trains out of West Chester, Ohio. His training partners include UFC fighters Gurgel, Dustin Hazelett, and former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin. Salmon, 29, is a former state wrestling champion (Worthington, OH Kilbourne High School), and while a member of the Ohio State University wrestling team, ranked as high as 10th in the nation at 167 pounds. Salmon was also an Olympics Trials qualifier and active member of the Ohio International Wrestling Club freestyle circuit,

Before signing with the UFC in December 2006, Salmon posted a 9-1 record competing in smaller MMA organizations, including King of the Cage and the Indianapolis-based Legends of Fighting Championship.
